After discussing the available options, the decision was made to install a full anthracite uPVC roofline system, replacing the existing timber components completely.
The Existing Roofline System
During our inspection, it was clear that the existing roofline had reached the end of its service life.
The original installation consisted of traditional white timber fascia boards combined with an older guttering system. Although the system had protected the property for many years, signs of wear were now visible.
The timber fascia boards were beginning to deteriorate and the guttering was no longer performing efficiently during heavy rainfall.
This combination of ageing materials meant the roofline would soon require significant repair work if it remained in place.
Instead of attempting temporary fixes or covering the timber boards with plastic caps, we recommended a full roofline replacement.

Installing a Modern Anthracite Roofline System
Once the existing timber components had been removed, our team began installing the new anthracite roofline system.

The installation included:
- Solid 10mm anthracite flat boards and soffits
- Full replacement anthracite fascia boards
- Over fascia ventilation system

By installing a complete replacement fascia system rather than simply capping the old boards, we ensured the roofline would have the structural strength required to support the guttering and maintain long-term performance.
Improving Roof Ventilation and Water Management
A key part of this project was upgrading the ventilation and drainage around the roof edge.
Modern roofline systems must allow sufficient airflow into the roof space to prevent condensation and moisture build-up.
To achieve this, we installed an over fascia ventilation system. This allows air to circulate correctly into the roof space without the need for visible soffit vents, which helps maintain a cleaner appearance.
We also installed eaves guard protection trays beneath the roofing felt.
These trays help guide rainwater into the guttering and prevent the roofing felt from sagging into the gutter channel over time.
Without these components, roofing felt can eventually droop into the guttering, which may cause water overflow and drainage problems.

Installing a Maintenance-Free Dry Verge System
To complete the upgrade, we also installed a full anthracite dry verge system along the gable ends of the roof.
Traditional verge systems rely on mortar to secure the edge tiles. Over time, mortar can crack and deteriorate due to weather exposure.
Dry verge systems provide a modern alternative that:
- Secures the edge tiles mechanically
- Eliminates the need for mortar repairs
